Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Washington D.C., the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is a specialized research, development, and acquisition agency within the United States Government’s Department of Defense responsible for developing a layered defense against ballistic missiles. Working in close partnership with government civilians, military service members, and contractor personnel in multiple locations, MDA develops, tests, and fields an integrated Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) which addresses the challenges of an evolving threat.
